Apple’s A20 Pro Chip Unleashed: iPhone Fold and 18 Pro Set to Revolutionize Foldables

Apple is expected to take a big step forward in 2026 with the launch of a new powerful chip and its first foldable iPhone. According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple may introduce the iPhone Fold, along with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, in September 2026. All three premium models are likely to run on the new A20 Pro chip. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 and a cheaper iPhone 18e could launch later, in spring 2027, as part of Apple’s split-release plan.
The A20 Pro chip is said to be built using **TSMC’s advanced 2nm (N2) technology. This should make the chip around 15 percent faster and about 30 percent more power-efficient than the previous A19 chip. iPhones could become quicker while using less battery power.
One major upgrade is a new packaging method called Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM). In simple terms, instead of keeping the memory close to the processor as a separate part, Apple may place the RAM directly on the same chip as the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. This makes the chip smaller, faster, and more power-efficient, helping the phone run smoothly and save battery. This saves space, improves performance for AI features like Apple Intelligence, and helps the phone last longer on a single charge.
The A20 Pro chip also has better power parts built into it. These improvements help the power move more smoothly inside the chip, so the phone doesn’t struggle when it’s under pressure. Even during heavy use, it stays steady and responsive. Because less energy is wasted, the phone works more efficiently, and things like gaming, photography, or AI features feel faster, smoother, and more dependable.
Reports say the iPhone Fold and Pro models will share several features, including 12GB RAM, 48-megapixel rear cameras, and Apple’s new C2 modem. The foldable iPhone may use a book-style design with a large 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen. It is also rumored to support Touch ID and be extremely thin when opened.
So far, Apple has not confirmed any of this. These details come from supply-chain sources and analysts like Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo. Still, if these plans hold, Apple could strongly challenge Samsung in the foldable phone market by combining high-end performance with a bold new design.
