Battlefield Studios Releases Season 2 Update, But Drops to Just 40K Players on Steam

Battlefield 6’s season two update came out yesterday. It was supposed to save the game. But it didn’t work. The update added lots of new content and fixed some issues with REDSEC, the battle royale mode. Still, not many players returned. On Steam, the top player count was only 92,281 when it launched. That’s less than 97,959 players on a normal Sunday in January with no new stuff! Twitch viewers went up a bit, from 3,000 to 27,000. But the game ranked just 75th. At launch in October 2025, it had 747,440 players and 868,520 viewers. Now, things are getting worse fast.

This shows Battlefield 6 is losing fans three months after release. The team was worried about their plan. They hoped the new season would bring old players back and get new ones. But numbers say no. Streams are way down from last year’s peak of over 17,000 at once. Weekend boosts might help a little, but not much. Fans worry it could crash like Highguard did.
Look at ARC Raiders for comparison. That game came out soon after Battlefield 6. It hit 481,966 players on Steam and 372,816 viewers. Recently, it still had 215,978 players and 116,000 viewers. Battlefield 6 can’t keep up.
The game came out in October 2025 with a lot of hype. Many players enjoyed the multiplayer battles because they felt like the classic Battlefield experience again. The single-player story was just average you can play it if you want, but it’s not very special. The battle royale mode, called REDSEC, was not very good and most players didn’t like it.
After some time, the excitement faded. There wasn’t enough new content or updates to keep players interested. Because of that, fewer and fewer people continued playing the game.
Public reactions on Twitter show disappointment and different opinions about the reason behind the situation.
One user said they hope big maps are added soon, showing that they feel the current content is lacking and disappointing.
Another user blamed Redsec, arguing that it took away resources that could have been used to improve the main multiplayer modes.
A third user suggested a broader explanation, saying player habits in the market may have changed. They pointed out that ARC Raiders is currently attracting many players and claimed that Battlefield 6 was performing well until ARC Raiders was released.
Battlefield Studios hoped season two would be exciting. They improved REDSEC and added multiplayer changes. But the facts are clear. Steam numbers were lower than on boring days. Viewers are far below old highs and behind games like ARC Raiders. It’s not in Twitch’s top spots. Past weekends saw 30% more views, but experts don’t think it’ll fix things now.
It’s not a total disaster yet. Battlefield 6 isn’t falling as hard as Highguard. But the drop is scary for a game about huge battles. Players and streamers are leaving for better options. The studio must decide: pump out more updates fast, change big things, or watch the series fade?
