Solid Snake Will Join Rainbow Six Siege on March 3: Features Detailed Discussion and Fans Reactions

Ubisoft has announced that Solid Snake will become a permanent attacking Operator in Rainbow Six Siege on March 3, 2026. He will arrive with Operation Silent Hunt, the first season of Year 11. Snake is voiced by David Hayter, the original voice actor. This is also the first time a character from another game series has joined the main roster.
Snake’s gameplay is built around stealth. His main gadget is the Soliton Radar MKIII. It shows the floor layout and helps players see threats. The radar uses simple colors: green means safe, yellow shows cameras, and red marks enemies. It also has a precision mode that can track enemies for a short time.

He also has an ability called On-Site Procurement (OSP). This lets him pick up gadgets from defeated enemies. Because of this, he can carry up to five secondary gadgets, which gives players more choices during a match.
For weapons, Snake carries the Tacit .45 suppressed pistol. Players can choose the PMR90A2 DMR or the F2 assault rifle, which now supports grips. His weapons are designed for careful and quiet play.
Ubisoft is also adding a limited-time Silent Hunt event. It will take place on a changed version of the Nighthaven Labs map. Both Solid Snake and Sam Fisher will appear in this mode. The event will also include new skins inspired by characters like Gray Fox and Meryl.
There are many on-going discussions about the details of features which are:-
1. Event mode may be different
Some early previews and player discussions suggest that the Silent Hunt mode might use smaller teams and focus more on stealth instead of the usual Siege gameplay. This could make it feel more like Metal Gear. However, Ubisoft has not officially confirmed the final rules yet.
2. Snake may start with fewer gadgets
Because Snake can collect gadgets during the match, previews say he might begin rounds with fewer gadgets than other attackers. This would help balance his ability. Ubisoft has explained the scavenging idea but has not confirmed exactly what gear he will start with.
3. Radar may give extra information
The Soliton Radar is expected to give more details than normal intel tools, possibly helping players track enemy movement better. The radar itself is confirmed, but its full features are still not officially explained.
4. Event map inspired by Metal Gear
The Silent Hunt event will use a themed version of the Nighthaven Labs map. It is expected to include design elements inspired by Metal Gear locations, but Ubisoft has not shared how big these changes will be.
5. Crossover skins for other operators
The event is expected to include Metal Gear–themed skins for some operators. Themed cosmetics have been mentioned, but the full list of skins and how to unlock them has not been confirmed yet.
6. Radar may have limits
Some early impressions suggest the Soliton Radar might have limits like a cooldown or charge time to keep it balanced. However, Ubisoft has not officially confirmed how it will work.
7. Snake will be a permanent operator
Ubisoft has confirmed that Solid Snake will stay in the game as a permanent attacking operator after the season launches, not just during the event. This makes the crossover different from many past limited-time collaborations.
Public reaction on X (Twitter) to the announcement was mixed of different opinions which can’t be generalized.
One player was happy and showed support for Ubisoft Montreal, saying they liked what the developers are doing.

However, other one was unhappy, especially about balance changes, with one user complaining that shield operators are being weakened and may become less useful in the game.
So… A major balancing Update? What the hell are you balancing? If you guys want to make shields useless and remove them from the fucking game. They removed the ability to bash through doors. Melee Priority is still a thing too. Clash is going to have a low pick rate now.

Another fan also argued about details, pointed out that the character shown looked like Naked Snake, not Solid Snake, and criticized the marketing for the mistake.
That's Snake Eater (naked snake) not Solid Snake!!

The new season comes after a period earlier in 2026 when the game faced major hacking problems. Ubisoft has since worked on improving stability and security.
Operation Silent Hunt also brings other changes. The maps Coastline, Oregon, and Villa are being updated. A new 1v1 Arcade mode is being added, and the 6v6 Dual Front mode is being removed. Some Operators are also being balanced, including Skopos, who will become a 3-speed Operator, and Ela, whose Grzmot Mines will last longer.
Many players have wanted to see Solid Snake in Rainbow Six Siege for years, especially together with Sam Fisher. With this update, Ubisoft is finally bringing those characters into the same game.
