Anuppur, India, January 01, 2026 (GizTimes)– Permission has been given to TSMC (a major computer chip company from Taiwan) by the United States to bring American chipmaking machines into its factory in Nanjing, China, for the year 2026. This permission means TSMC can keep running its factory smoothly without any stops.
The United States gave Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix two South Korean companies, the same permission to run their factories in China. These Korean companies, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix used to have a special status that let them skip getting this permission.. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix lost this special status when it expired on December 31 2025. Now Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have to get approval every year so they can keep working.
TSMC’s Nanjing factory makes older types of computer chips (called 16-nanometre chips), not their newest and most advanced ones. This factory brings in about 2.4% of TSMC’s total money. The U.S. has rules about the export of high-tech equipment to China because America wants to stay ahead of China in technology development.
