OpenAI employees will get an average pay of $1.5 million (Rs 1.35 crore) in company shares for 2025. No startup has ever paid its employees this much on average, it’s the first time. About 4,000 employees will receive this amount.

Massive amounts are being paid by OpenAI to keep its employees from leaving. Meta and other companies have been trying to hire OpenAI workers by offering them hundreds of millions of dollars. To prevent employees from switching jobs, OpenAI gave big bonuses and made it easier for them to get their shares faster.

This pay is 34 times more than what other big tech companies gave their employees before going public. It’s even 7 times more than what Google paid its workers in 2003. By 2030, OpenAI expects to spend $3 billion annually on employee stock payments.

These high salaries are making many OpenAI employees very rich. However, they’re also causing the company to lose more money and reducing the value of shares for investors. OpenAI also created a new senior job focused on AI safety, paying $555,000 plus shares.

For hiring the best workers, AI companies are paying a huge amount to them. But what if the AI boom slows down? Then the company can manage to pay high salaries for a long time
