Bungie confirmed its extraction shooter Marathon launches on March 5, 2026. It comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Price is $39.99. Pre-orders are open with Standard and Deluxe editions that include cosmetic items.
This is Bungie’s first completely new game since the release of Destiny 2 in 2017, making it an important project for the studio. Unlike Destiny, Marathon is built as a PvPvE extraction shooter. The game is set in the year 2850 on the planet Tau Ceti, where players take on the role of “Runners” in three-person squads. During each match, teams complete contracts, fight AI enemies, face off against other players, and try to extract safely with what they collect.
A recent gameplay trailer introduced a character named Gantry, who is part of the MIDA faction. Bungie says the game has six rival factions. You’ll uncover the story slowly through codex entries, contracts, and lost logs during missions. No long cutscenes needed.
They revealed the English voice actors too: Roger Clark, Neil Newbon, Elias Toufexis, and Jennifer English. They’re also selling a physical Collector’s Edition. It has a 1/6-scale “Thief Runner Shell” statue, a small WEAVEworm figure, and other collectibles. This edition does not include the base game. It is sold separately.
The game will support full cross-play and cross-save across all platforms at launch, allowing players to move between systems without losing progress. Bungie also confirmed that Marathon was delayed from its original late 2025 window after alpha testing feedback highlighted issues with the user interface and movement speed. The studio says those areas have since been improved. Bungie recently addressed and resolved a minor issue related to the use of independent art assets, stating that the affected content was removed.

Fans on Reddit shared early info about a weapon mod named “Ornithologist” from community screenshots. That name and its function are not reported much elsewhere. This hints at more modular weapon systems in the game than Bungie has officially shown. Gamers find this weapon very useful, as discussions were ongoing about whether they can use it as a distraction for opponents.
2. Self-Revive Feature
Reddit posts show a recent gameplay clip from Marathon’s Twitter channel. A community member shared it. The clip seems to confirm a self-revive feature. Players can recover after being downed. Bungie has not mentioned this clearly in trailers or announcements. Yet many gamers are not happy with this feature cause it turns an extraction shooter into a Battle Royale.
How to Preorder the game
Players can pre-order Marathon on PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, or Steam. Bungie offers Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe has extra cosmetic items and costs more. After purchasing, the game will be added to the user’s library and will automatically download ahead of the March 5, 2026 launch, if auto-download is enabled. Pre-order bonuses, where applicable, will unlock in-game once the title goes live.
