HYDERABAD, India (GizTimes) — Mercedes Benz preparing to update its GLE and GLE Coupe once again, with the new versions expected to be shown in May 2026. The company is doing this to keep the SUV fresh, especially with the next-generation BMW X5 coming later the same year.
The current GLE has been around since 2018, and while it did get a small update in 2023, that is no longer enough in today’s fast-changing market. This time, Mercedes is making more noticeable changes.
On the outside, the SUV will get a new grille, updated bumpers, and redesigned headlights. The rear lights will also have a new look inspired by the Mercedes logo. Inside, the cabin will feel more modern, with two large screens as standard and an optional three-screen setup for those who want more tech.
Mercedes is also improving the infotainment system. It will run on a new system with faster performance, support for Google services, and features like Microsoft Teams. One small but important change is the return of physical buttons on the steering wheel, replacing the touch controls that many users found difficult to use.
The driving assist features will also be improved, offering more advanced support in daily driving, especially on highways.
There are some big changes under the hood too. Mercedes plans to remove smaller four-cylinder engines from plug-in hybrid models, as buyers in this segment prefer more powerful engines. Instead, the focus will shift to six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, along with updated hybrid options.
A new plug-in hybrid with a six-cylinder engine and electric motor is expected, offering over 100 km of electric-only driving. All engine options will also get mild-hybrid support to improve efficiency.
Production of the updated GLE and GLE Coupe will begin in September 2026 in the US.
Looking ahead, Mercedes is also working on a fully electric version of the GLE, which will eventually replace the current EQE SUV.
Public reactions on Reddit and X are mostly practical and a bit cautious. Some users are questioning whether it makes sense to buy the updated GLE brand new, saying people could save a lot of money by going for a slightly older used model instead. They feel the new updates may not be a big enough improvement to justify the higher price.

A few users also simply shared timeline information about the expected launch, showing that some people are just keeping track of when the updated model will arrive. Overall, the reaction shows interest, but also some hesitation about whether the changes are really needed.
Overall, this update is about keeping the GLE competitive and in line with what buyers now expect—more tech, better engines, and a smoother driving experience.
