HYDERABAD, India (GizTimes) — A rare 2008 Spyker C8 Laviolette is set to go up for auction on Bring a Trailer, drawing attention for its unusual design and strong focus on craftsmanship. With only around 60 units built, the Laviolette is one of the more distinctive supercars from the early 2000s.
Built by Dutch carmaker Spyker, the C8 Laviolette reflects the brand’s aviation history. The car features a low and sculpted body, polished metal details, and upward-opening doors. Unlike earlier Spyker models, the Laviolette version features a fixed glass canopy roof, giving it an aircraft-cockpit-inspired look.
Inside, the car stands out even more. The cabin uses quilted leather and metal finishes, but the main highlight is the exposed gearshift mechanism. The visible linkage adds a mechanical feel that is rarely seen in modern cars and gives drivers a more connected experience.
Power comes from a 4.2-litre V8 engine sourced from Audi, producing around 400 horsepower. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, sending power to the rear wheels. While it was not the fastest car in its segment when new, it focused more on driving feel and sound rather than outright speed.
The specific car going up for auction has very low mileage, showing around 1,600 miles. It has also been recently serviced and updated by a specialist, with work done on components such as the ignition system and suspension to keep it in good condition.
The auction is expected to attract collectors, especially as interest in rare, hand-built sports cars continues to grow. It also comes at a time when discussions are underway to restart production under the Spyker name.
Public reaction feels very positive and a bit nostalgic. Some people are surprised by the design, especially the doors, and say the car looks beautiful but also a little confusing to use in real life.
Others connected it to old video games like Gran Turismo, saying they knew the car from there but only recently discovered how detailed and unique it really is, especially the interior.
A few users simply appreciated how the car looks, calling it one of the most attractive and special designs they have seen. Overall, people see it as a rare and memorable car that stands out from others.
For many, the C8 Laviolette is less about numbers and more about design, feel, and uniqueness, making it stand apart from more common supercars of its time.
