Capcom director Koshi Nakanishi officially confirmed that Resident Evil: Requiem will release on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026, alongside PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. According to a YouTube video on Nintendo’s channel, the team was unsure at first whether the new Nintendo console could handle the game, but was surprised by its performance.
Nakanishi said the developers were skeptical in the beginning. After testing the game on the Switch 2, they had to do a triple take because it ran smoothly. He explained that the team did not need to make big changes or cut content for the Switch 2 version. The game will launch in the same form as other platforms.
This marks the first time since Resident Evil: Revelations in 2012 that a new mainline Resident Evil game will launch on a Nintendo console at the same time as other systems. For Nintendo players, this means they can play the new entry without waiting for a later release.
Nakanishi also shared that the enemy Scarmiglione, which first appeared in Resident Evil: Revelations and returns in Requiem, was inspired by the Iron Knuckle soldiers from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The idea of an enemy moving its shield to block attacks influenced its design.
The update comes as leaks about the game have appeared online. Capcom has said it will take firm action against those who shared illegal copies and spoilers. Industry veteran Hideki Kamiya also criticized the leaks, saying they spoil the experience for other players.
Nakanishi made these comments during a Creator’s Voice episode on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel. IGN India reported that he hopes the same-day release on Switch 2 will help bring more players to the series.
The YouTube video comments show that many fans are happy and excited about the news. One person joked that Nakanishi is a big Nintendo fan. They were reacting to how comfortable and excited he looked while talking about the game on Nintendo’s channel. It felt natural to them, not forced.
Another comment talked about being happy to see Leon on a Nintendo console again. The user mentioned the time when Resident Evil 4 launched on the GameCube. This shows that older fans are feeling nostalgic and remembering good moments from the past.
A third comment praised the Creator’s Voice videos and said they enjoy watching them. The person liked Nakanishi’s energy and said it made them even more excited to play the new game. They also liked that he grew up playing Nintendo games, just like they did.
