ANUPPUR, India (GizTimes) — Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will get a free PlayStation VR2 update in early 2026, expected around April with Sim Update 5. Now PlayStation 5 players use virtual reality across the full game, including all 125 aircraft, for the first time on console.
The update is being developed by Microsoft and Asobo Studio, and it brings full VR support instead of a limited mode. Players will be able to sit inside the cockpit and look around in all directions, making the experience feel closer to real flying.
To make controls easier in VR, every button, switch, and dial inside the cockpit has been redesigned to work with PS VR2 Sense controllers. Players can use their hands to interact with the aircraft instead of using regular controller inputs.
The developers have also worked on performance so the game runs smoothly in VR. They are using eye-tracking technology that focuses graphics where the player is looking. This helps keep the game running at stable frame rates, which is important for VR.
A new system called frame duplication has also been added. It helps reduce motion blur and improves how quickly the game responds when players move their head, especially during fast moments like takeoff or sharp turns.
The VR mode also changes how players experience the world. Instead of just seeing mountains or clouds on a screen, players can feel the depth and size of the environment. They can even lean forward to look through clear spots on a rain-covered windshield.
Different aircraft will show different benefits in VR. Large airliners like the Boeing 737-8 have been optimized for stable performance, while helicopters like the Guimbal Cabri G2 give better side views and awareness of surroundings.
Activities like Red Bull Air Races will also feel more intense. Players can look into turns to spot the next target, which adds more control and realism.
Public reaction on X (Twitter) has been mixed but mostly positive following the announcement of the PS VR2 update for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Some users expressed frustration with PlayStation’s handling of its own VR platform, with one tweet criticizing the company for not delivering similar experiences internally and relying on external developers instead.
Some players showed clear excitement about the update itself. One user highlighted the appeal of finally experiencing realistic flight piloting in virtual reality, pointing to the immersive potential of the feature.
Another user showed strong purchase intent, saying they are ready to buy the game as soon as the PS VR2 mode becomes available.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was released on PS5 in December 2025 after launching earlier on Xbox and PC. This VR update follows the earlier promise to bring more advanced features to PlayStation players, now adding full virtual reality support to the experience.
